Cognition hires the entire Dioxus team to work on Devin's desktop app

Jonathan Kelley and the rest of the open-source Rust UI framework's team are joining Cognition, which says it will keep backing Dioxus, Blitz, Taffy, and Subsecond as open source while the team builds out Devin.

Cognition announced on September 10, 2026 that Jonathan Kelley and the full team behind Dioxus, the open-source Rust framework for building cross-platform app UIs, are joining the company. "We're thrilled to welcome Jonathan Kelley and the entire Dioxus team to Cognition," the company said in its announcement. Cognition had already used Dioxus internally to build parts of Devin, its AI coding agent, before the hire.

What the team is actually there to build

Per Cognition's post, the Dioxus team will work on Devin's virtual machine, its computer-use capabilities, and its testing infrastructure -- the lower-level plumbing that lets Devin operate a desktop environment rather than just edit files in a repository. That's a narrower, more infrastructure-facing mandate than a typical acquihire announcement implies, and it lines up with Cognition's broader push to have Devin operate applications and interfaces directly, not just write code for them.

The open-source project's status

Cognition says it will continue backing Dioxus, Blitz, Taffy, and Subsecond as open-source projects, with expanded focus specifically on Dioxus-Native and Blitz going forward. For a framework that depended on a small team's continued investment, folding into a well-funded AI coding company is a common way open-source maintainers get paid to keep working on the same project -- though whether Cognition's own product priorities end up steering Dioxus's roadmap over time is the standard question that arrangement raises, and not one this announcement addresses either way.
