What a purchase of Operator OS grants your business, and what it doesn't.

In plain English

Plain writing, before you pay. The formal version is in LICENSE and says the same things in the language a court reads. If the two ever disagree, that is a mistake and this file is what was meant.

Your data is yours, completely

Everything under data/ belongs to you. It sits on your own disk in plain CSV files. It is never uploaded, never synced, never seen by us, and there is no account holding it. If you delete this repo tomorrow, copy data/ first and you still have your entire business.

We cannot lock you out of your own data because we were never holding it.

What you can do with the software

You bought a permanent licence for one business, yours. With it you can:

  • install it on every machine you personally use
  • change any file in it, including the engine and the tools
  • keep using this version forever, with no renewal and no subscription
  • keep using it if we stop publishing updates, go quiet, or shut down
  • write your own tools, workspaces and commands and keep them

What you cannot do

  • resell it, republish it, or give copies to other businesses
  • sell it as your own product, with or without changes
  • use it to run a service where other businesses pay you to operate it for them
  • remove the licence file from copies you make for your own use

If you want to use it for clients, ask. There is a separate arrangement for that and it is not expensive.

What you get, exactly

  • the full repository, every file, on day one
  • the written workbook, ten modules, Mac and Windows
  • thirty-five tools and forty four commands
  • eight import adapters and the contract for writing your own
  • the plugin SDK, with four working examples
  • the agent layer: routing table, roster, and five scheduled runs
  • eight encoded workspaces with personas
  • the local console
  • updates to this major version, for at least twelve months from purchase

Plugins you write, and plugins other people write

Anything you build on top of this is yours. Your own plugins, adapters, workspaces, tools and commands belong to you completely, and you may sell them, give them away, or keep them private. That is the whole point of the capability model existing.

What you may not do is repackage this product as the base of your own competing product. Extend it, sell what you built, and leave the core alone.

Plugins written by other people are their software, not mine. A plugin runs as code on your machine with the access its manifest declares, and nothing in this licence makes me responsible for one I did not write. os plugin verify checks a plugin against its own checksums and tells you what it declared. Read a plugin before you install it, exactly as you would any other code.

What is not included

No live sessions. No calls. No implementation service. This is a self serve product on purpose, so nothing about it depends on anyone's calendar. If you want someone to sit with you while you set it up, that is a separate paid thing and it is not required.

Refunds

All sales are final. No refunds, except where required by law. Try the live demo on the Operator OS page before you buy: it runs the same engine on a sample business, so you can see exactly what you are getting first.

Support

Email, and a reply within two working days. Support covers the product: installs, errors, and how a tool is meant to work. It does not cover your accounting, your pricing, or your customers, because those are yours.

Warranty, honestly

This is software that reports arithmetic over files you control. It is not a bank, an accountant, a lawyer, or a filing service, and it never touches money. Its tax figures are a planning percentage you chose applied to cash you actually received, and they are not a calculation of what you owe. Take them to whoever does your return.

Check your own numbers. The tools are built so you can: every figure comes from a row you can open, and every tool ends with something you verify yourself.

If we sell the project or stop working on it

Your licence survives both. It is permanent and it is not conditional on us still being here.

OPERATOR OS SOFTWARE LICENCE
Version 1.1, effective 11 October 2026

Product: Operator OS, comprising software, documentation, workbook and workspace
content as delivered to the purchaser.
Governing law: Delaware, USA

1. GRANT
Subject to payment and to this licence, the publisher grants the purchaser a
perpetual, non exclusive, non transferable licence to install and use the product
for the internal business operations of one business owned or operated by the
purchaser, on any number of devices the purchaser personally controls.

2. PERMITTED USE
The purchaser may modify the product, create derivative tools, workspaces and
commands for their own use, and retain those modifications. The purchaser may
retain and use any version received, indefinitely, whether or not the publisher
continues to distribute or support the product.

2A. EXTENSIONS BY THE PURCHASER
Plugins, adapters, workspaces, tools, commands and migrations authored by the
purchaser are the exclusive property of the purchaser, whether or not they depend
on the product's interfaces, and may be distributed or sold by the purchaser
without further permission. This clause does not permit distribution of any part
of the product itself.

2B. THIRD PARTY EXTENSIONS
Extensions authored by parties other than the publisher are not part of the
product, are not warranted by the publisher, and are used at the purchaser's own
risk. The publisher makes no representation about their behaviour, security or
fitness. The verification facilities in the product check declared metadata and
checksums only, and do not constitute an assurance of safety.

3. RESTRICTIONS
The purchaser may not: distribute, sell, sublicense, lease, or publish the
product or any derivative of it; offer the product or a derivative as a hosted or
managed service to third parties; operate the product on behalf of another
business for a fee without a separate written agreement; or remove licence or
attribution files from any copy.

4. PURCHASER DATA
All content created by the purchaser under the data directory is the exclusive
property of the purchaser. The product operates entirely on the purchaser's own
devices. The publisher does not receive, store, transmit or process purchaser
data, and has no access to it. No account is created and no telemetry is
collected.

5. UPDATES
The publisher will make updates to the current major version available to the
purchaser for a minimum of twelve months from the date of purchase. The publisher
is not obliged to publish updates beyond that period. No update requires the
purchaser to replace or surrender their data.

6. SUPPORT
Support is provided by email with a target response time of two working days, and
covers installation, defects, and the intended operation of the product. It does
not include accounting, tax, legal, pricing or business advice.

7. REFUND
All sales are final. No refunds, except where required by law.

8. NO PROFESSIONAL ADVICE
The product performs arithmetic over data supplied by the purchaser and presents
the result. It does not provide accounting, tax, legal, financial or regulatory
advice. Figures described as tax set aside are a planning percentage chosen by
the purchaser applied to cash receipts recorded by the purchaser, and are not a
computation of any liability. The purchaser is responsible for verifying all
figures and for their own compliance obligations.

9. WARRANTY
The product is provided as is. To the maximum extent permitted by law the
publisher disclaims all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness
for a particular purpose, and non infringement. Nothing in this licence excludes
liability which cannot lawfully be excluded, including for fraud or for death or
personal injury caused by negligence.

10. LIABILITY
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the publisher's total aggregate liability
arising out of or in connection with this licence is limited to the amount paid
by the purchaser for the product. The publisher is not liable for loss of profit,
loss of business, loss of data, or indirect or consequential loss.

11. TERMINATION
This licence terminates automatically if the purchaser breaches section 3. On
termination the purchaser must cease use and destroy all copies of the product.
Purchaser data is unaffected and remains the property of the purchaser.

12. ASSIGNMENT AND SURVIVAL
The publisher may assign this licence in connection with a sale or transfer of
the product. The purchaser's rights under sections 1, 2 and 4 survive any such
transfer and any discontinuation of the product.

13. ENTIRE AGREEMENT
This licence, together with the plain writing summary distributed as
LICENCE-PLAIN.md, is the entire agreement between the parties. Where the two
differ, the plain writing summary reflects the intended meaning.
