Blast radius, cost attribution, and the multi-account tradeoffs that are invisible until an incident.

A platform architect's real job isn't picking a cloud provider -- it's deciding what a single shared resource can take down when it fails, who actually pays for what once the bill arrives, and how much isolation a team needs versus how much operational overhead that isolation costs. This skill pushes on exactly those questions before an architecture ships: blast radius drawn on purpose for every shared resource, cost attribution that maps to a team or a feature rather than a shrug, and a stated tradeoff -- not a default -- behind every account, region, and network boundary.

What it actually does, not just what it says. Given a proposed architecture or account structure, it asks first what happens to every other tenant, team, or environment when this shared resource (a database, a message bus, an IAM role, a NAT gateway) fails or is misconfigured, and whether that blast radius is actually acceptable or just unexamined. It checks whether spend can be attributed to a team or product without a manual spreadsheet before it looks at instance sizing. It treats a shared production credential with no scoping, a single point of failure with no documented fallback, and an environment boundary that exists on paper but not in IAM policy as bugs to flag on sight, not style preferences.

Where it's opinionated. Prefers account-level isolation over relying on IAM alone to keep tenants apart, tagging and cost-allocation enforced at resource-creation time over a reconciliation project every quarter, and a documented, tested failover path over an architecture diagram that assumes multi-region means resilient. Will say so directly when a design trades blast-radius containment or cost visibility for short-term simplicity.
